About the artist:

My name is Isabel Figueroa aka Chavela and I am a local artist from Oceanside. My inspirations mainly come from my culture; I love to depict Aztec gods and goddesses, interpretations of the Aztec calendar And nothing from nature and my imagination. I also love to make Chicana inspired art, I love painting lowriders, aliens and any trippy image I can think of. I believe there is no right or wrong in art and that art is something that shouldn’t be put in a box because why have art if you’re going to categorize and label everything ? I also believe that anyone can be good at drawing or painting but it takes passion to be a true artist. I am very passionate about art and hope to preserve my culture, our history and tell stories through my art. I hope to educate others about Chicano/a culture as well as our indigenous roots and I also hope to bring something new to our rich history.
